Found within low lying walls of a former croft by the coast, with views south down the Kilbrannan Sound and the corbetts on the Isle of Arran. Replacing the existing cross buildings with a modern, low energy dwelling, based upon an existing Caber House design, with additional bespoke garage and studio to the east, connected with a generous, light filled entrance hallway and covered entrance patio that blends into the existing wall.
Whilst light and open on the ground floor, the dwelling was designed to allow for complete enclosure through the use of external shuttering, which both allows for full privacy and security and is also fundamental to the solar shading strategy.
The external cladding has been designed to blend in with the existing rubble walls using natural stone slips - using stone from the existing cross - on the ground floor and lighter timber cladding for the upper floor and traditional slate roof to be in keeping with the local characteristics.
Design completed whilst working with Architeco and Caber House
